The Rasm-e-Qul of Mr Majid Nizami, editor and head of Nawa-i-Waqt Group of publications, was held at his residence, 43 Mason RoadLahore at 3pm.
A large number of government officials, politicians, journalists, diplomats, religious leaders and other notables of the country among friends and relatives attended the ceremony and prayed for the departed soul.
Railways Minister Khwaja Saad Rafique, Punjab Minister for Excise & Taxation Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, former Punjab governor Latif Khan Khosa, Khwaja Imran Nazir, Asif Kirmani, Chaudhry Nazeer, Muneer Malik, Arshad Ansari, Saleem Bokhari, Kabir Ali Shah and Dr Raghib Naeemi among other former and incumbent prominent officials kept pouring in throughout the ceremony to express condolences to the Nizami family.

Moreover, prominent personalities from different walks of life continued to visit Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami at his residence on Sunday to condole the sad demise of his uncle and Pakistan’s journalism icon Mr Majid Nizami.
Prominent among those are former foreign minister Khurshid Kasuri, former Punjab governor Latif Khan Khosa, former federal minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, Aijaz Shah, Dr Salmaan Shah, Mian Mansha, Federal Information Secretary Muhammad Azam, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, former governor Shahid Hamid, Air Marshall (r) Asghar Khan, Wasif Ali Khan, Farooq Hameed, Irfan Raja, Jehangir Elahi, General (r) Mela, City 42 CEO Mohsin Naqvi, Inam Akbar from Midas Private Limited and a delegation from Pakistan Television while Jang Group owner Mir Shakilur Rehman also expressed his condolences over the phone from Saudi Arabia.
Furthermore, according to a collective statement issued by the Senate Secretariat, Senate Chairman Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari, Deputy Chairman Sabir Ali Baloch, Leader of the House in the Senate Raja Muhammad Zafarul Haq and Leader of the Opposittion Aitezaz Ahsan Sunday expressed deep grief over the demise of veteran journalist and paid tribute to him.
In the meanwhile, Muttahida Quami Movement Altaf Hussain, Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Mohammad Asif and Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain condoled the Nizami family in separate messages issued Sunday while Pakistan Overseas (POs) Dubai Chairman Tariq Khan Niazi, Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society and Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) vice chancellor also paid tribute to the veteran journalist.
Earlier on Saturday, the senior journalist was buried at Lahore’s Miani Sahib graveyard after his funeral prayers were held at the Bagh-e-Jinnah in which a large number of people from all walks of life participated.
