In a massive crackdown against profiteers, 333 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 602,600 fine for selling commodities above government rates.
Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.
He further said that city administration had focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas included Saddar, Civil Line, Garden, SITE, Baldia, Orangi, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Liaquatabad, Korangi, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad and New Karachi.
In the crackdown, 87 milkmen, 33 shopkeepers of general commodities, 45 chicken sellers, two meat sellers, 61 vegetable sellers, 100 fruit-sellers, one baker and four flour sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices.
