Former Pakistani skipper and batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq placed importance on hard work as the only routes to success in either cricket or politics, leaving no room for short cuts.

“The only way to get selected in the national team is through hard work and merit, and the same situation can be seen in our political arena where short cuts are not available any more,” Inzamam was quoted as saying to the Express Tribune.

The highest run-getter for Pakistan in One-Day Internationals (ODI), who was known for his lazy elegance on the field, also stated that appreciating the value of merit over anything else in this discipline would serve as a confidence-booster for every cricketer, bolstering the game in the country.

‘Inzy’, as he is affectionately known amongst his team-mates, expressed his willingness to return to Pakistani cricket as the coach of the national team. He was also of the opinion to strengthen cricket at district and sub-district level for improving their international performances.
