Sindh Chief Secretary (CS) Sajjad Saleem Hotiana has asked the administrative secretaries and all the commissioners and deputy commissioners (DC) to personally monitor the day-to-day issues generally and burning issues like water and sewerage, sanitation, health, food and social problems.
He said this while presiding a high-level meeting in the Sindh Secretariat Friday on issues of cleanliness and solid waste disposal, water and sanitation, celebration on Independence Day, monsoon arrangements and cleaning of storm water drains and food security.
Secretaries of Local Government (LG) Shazia Rizvi, Services and General Administration (S&GDA) Inamullah Dharijo, Food Ramzan Awan, Irrigation Babar Effendi, Capital City Police Chief (CCPO) Ghulam Qadir Thebo, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Rauf Akhtar Farooqui, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) managing director, commissioners, DCs and Sindh Home Secretary Dr Niaz Ali Abbasi were present.
The chief secretary appreciated the sprit and categorically noted that no repetition of garbage dumping in Nallas (storm water drain) would be excused as severe disciplinary action shall be taken against the responsible officers without any discrimination.
The CCPO apprised the meeting on Sindh police contingencies arrangements with specific reference to Eidil Fitr.
The CS noted that all out efforts would be undertaken against the terrorism and safety of worshipers and general people on the eve of Eid.
He also asked the KMC administrator and Karachi water and sewerage board managing director to eradicate water and sewerage issues without further delay. He wanted commissioners and DCs to remain alert specifically in case of power shortage and get the electricity restored in the affected areas.
He said water scarcity crises needed proper attention of the responsible officers. He expressed concern over power breakdown in the province, specifically in the water pumping stations of Dhabeji, Gharo, Hub, Pipri and North Karachi.
Hotiana asked the administrative secretaries to ensure celebration of Aug 14, 2014, in befitting manner and pay homage to the martyrs of independence including those who had offered their lives for integrity and solidarity of the country against terrorism. He said each and every “shaheed” belonging to civilians and armed forces had inscribed a history of the dignity of Pakistan.
GA Secretary Imanullah Dharijo in his presentation highlighted the salient features of Independence Day preparations. Secretary LG Shazia Rizvi informed that all municipal administrators had been assigned the task of implementation on emergency plan Monsoon-2014 while stormy drainage system was also being improved properly.
The food secretary in his report about the food arrangement was advised by the CS to ascertain food authenticity and purity for safety of human life.
The CS said,’ I shall visit all districts before Eid to view the sewerage and safety of roads and nallas, particularly cleanliness of nallas and removal of garbage to the entire satisfaction of the government and people.”
