Medics protest Israeli aggression on Palestinians

The representatives of doctors association on Thursday staged a protest demonstration against the Israeli government and the United Nations (UN) against the killing of Palestinians Muslims in Gaza city and termed the bombardment on healthcares inhuman terror act.

The protest demonstration was jointly organised by the Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PMIA) Karachi, Pakistan Medical Association Center & Karachi chapters, Doctors Welfare Association, Neurology Awareness & Research Foundation and other organisations outside the Karachi Press Club.

Hundreds of doctors, medical students, and paramedics were carrying banners and placards inscribed with different slogans like down-with Israel, don’t deny medical aid for the sick, bombardment on hospitals condemnable, we are with Palestinians etc.

While addressing the protesters, PIMA Central President Prof Sohail Akhter strongly condemned Israeli forces bombardment on hospitals in Gaza city and termed the act clear violation of Geneva Convention and Human Rights. He said UNO had confirmed the killing of 700 innocent Palestinians during ongoing bombardment of Israeli forces on Gaza city out of which 80 per cent were civilians including 30 per cent children.

He also criticised the UN, the United States of America and other world powers over their silence on Gaza tragedy. He said 23 healthcare facilities had been damaged in Gaza, while number of doctors and patients died and injured owing to Israeli bombardment.

He informed that there was massive shortage of drugs and disposables in hospitals. He said Gaza required 3.2 million USD monthly to meet the need of drugs and disposables. He said Gaza hospitals urgently needed neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, plastic and general surgeons and orthopedic specialists.
