Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Thursday said that his government was actually holding peace talks with Pakistan and not with Afghan Taliban, emphasizing the importance of Pakistan in the fragile Afghan peace process.

“Pakistan can particularly play an important role in the restoration of peace in Afghanistan. Our peace talks are in fact, with Pakistan and not with the Afghan Taliban,” Karzai told visiting Chinese special envoy for Afghanistan, Sun Yuxi.

Sun arrived in Kabul Wednesday, days after Beijing nominated him as special envoy to the war-torn country.

“Foreign factors are involved in the Afghan peace process and that is why the cooperation of Pakistan and the United States is very important,” Karzai said, according to a statement posted on the presidential website.

  1. No one can deny the importance of open communications. It is vital for both Pakistan and Afghanistan to work together in bringing about lasting peace in the region. It is in both countries interest as they are fighting a common enemy. As NATO and allied forces draw down it becomes more relevant for the two neighbors to work together closely as common interests are at stake. No one can deny that both countries have had their challenges in the recent years, but on the same note no one can deny that they need to work together for a better future for their people. Peace is imperative for the success of the region and it can only be assured if all parties involved work together. That is the truth!

  2. Pakistan should deport all Afghans from hiding holes in Pakistan and should seal its border forever, let them kill one another, they would never stop blame game on Pakistan.
