Abid Sher Ali says NPP generating 95MW of electricity, asks Imran Khan to visit site
State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali has dismissed the statements issued against Nandipur Power Project (NPP) as “a bunch of lies” and said that those telling tales during the holy month of Ramazan should “fear God”.
Talking to reporters at Nandipur, Ali said that as per the government’s announcement, NPP is presently supplying 95 Megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
He said there is no reality in the accusations leveled by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders that NPP has developed faults by running on diesel, adding that NPP is a combined cycle power plant which can be run on three fuels – diesel, furnace oil and gas. Ali invited PTI Chairman Imran Khan to visit the plant for himself and see that it is operational.
The minister also dismissed allegations made by politician Sheikh Rasheed that a gas shortage has arisen in Gujranwala because NPP is being run on gas. Ali said that no gas pipeline has been laid for the supply of gas to the plant so far.
He said that NPP comprises four turbines and its first turbine has started producing 95 MW of electricity. He said that due to the construction of the remaining three turbines, there is sometimes a shutdown due to “technical reasons”.
