GUJRANWALA – District Coordination Officer Barrister Nabil Ahmad Awan has said that City District Government (CDG) is ready to chalk out a comprehensive plan of uplift works worth Rs 50 million in collaboration with Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI). He said this while presiding over a meeting in which Member National Assembly (MNA) Khurram Dastgir Khan, GCCI President Sheikh Sarwat Ikram, Sheikh Muhammad Nasim, Zarrar Kaleem and CDG officers participated. District Coordination Officer (DCO) Nabil Ahmad Awan welcomed the GCCI to share incomplete development programme of the city so that the masses might be provided with maximum relief in short time.
He added that three pedestrian bridges would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 50 million within next five months and slip road projects across the GT Road were also under construction to minimise load on the main road. He invited the GCCI to submit its proposals for betterment of the city and intended to share Rs 50 million funds with the chamber in the proposed projects under Citizen’s Community Board (CCB). The GCCI president welcomed this offer, intended to cooperate with the CDG and added that he would furnish details of development projects soon to start the work. Love birds commit suicide: At least two love birds committed suicide as their family disputes led their engagement in doldrums.
Reportedly, 18-year-old Shakeel wanted to marry his cousin Kalsoom who was an intermediate class student in a local college. Both liked each other but their families had severe differences and flatly refused to engage them. Shakeel and Kalsoom programmed to swallow poisonous pills and acted upon the plan separately. Both were taken to a hospital but could not survive. AFTAB RIZVI BECOMES PHOTO JOURNALISTS ASSOCIATION’S PRESIDENT: Syed Aftab Rizvi and Khurram Shahzad have been elected as unopposed president and general secretary of Photo Journalists Association Gujranwala respectively in the Gujranwala Press Club as no one else submitted nomination papers. FORMER LADY COUNCILOR, HER HUSBAND FOUND BEHEADED: A former lady councilor and her husband were beheaded at their home situated in Sultanpura under the jurisdiction of Garjakh Police Station. Reportedly, 50-year-old Parvin was living with her 60-year- old husband Khushi Muhammad in Sultanpura. One of their neighbouring ladies entered their house and saw their blood bathed bodies. Police reached the spot and shifted the bodies to district headquarters hospital for autopsy besides collecting clues from the locale.
