PM forms committee to ‘keep an eye’ on Independence Day ceremonies

Interior minister discusses operation Zarb-e-Azb, PTI’s long march and Qadri’s ‘revolution’ with Punjab CM

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has constituted a special five-member cabinet committee to observe Independence Day ceremonies. The cabinet committee will finalise programmes regarding Independence Day and will also coordinate among federal ministries and provincial governments.

According to a press release, the committee will be led by Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique while Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed, Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada, State Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal Khan and Special Assistant of PM Irfan Siddiqui will be its members.

The country-wide ceremonies from August 1 to 30 would be dedicated to martyrs of Tehreek-e-Pakistan and martyrs of war against terrorism.

NISAR, SHAHBAZ DISCUSS PTI MARCH:

In the meanwhile, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and discussed various issues including planned protest drives of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Dr Tahirul Qadri and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.

The meeting took place in Raiwand where the two dignitaries discussed several issues, including progress on Operation Zarb-e-Azb, planned long march of PTI and Qadri’s ‘revolution’.

They also deliberated upon the current political scenario of the country. Earlier, both the dignitaries had a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif wherein they reviewed the country’s law and order and political situation.

PM, SHAH AGREE ON NCHR NAMES:

Moreover, after an agreement between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and National Assembly Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah over the chairman and members of National Commission on Human Rights, their names have been forwarded to the parliamentary committee.

The parliamentary committee, chaired by Senator Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, will meet on Monday and consider the names prior to approval.

According to sources, Justice (r) Ali Nawaz Chauhan and Justice (r) Kelash Nath Kohli have been proposed for the post of NHCR chairman. Members of the commission would be included from the four provinces.

The purpose of the commission is to ensure protection of human rights and take action on reports of violations.
