Helping affected brethren in this hour of trial is not less than worship, said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif while holding meetings with philanthropists, trade union leaders, PTCL president and chief executive officer, WAPDA chairman and assembly members on Saturday during which they presented donations for the relief of the internally displaced persons from North Waziristan Agency.
A cheque for Rs 50.10 million was given by Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and citizens, a cheque for Rs 10 million by PTCL Chief Executive Officer and President Waleed Irshad, a cheque for Rs 10 million by WAPDA Chairman Zafar Mehmood and KEPCO Chief Executive Officer Aftab Butt and a cheque for Rs 9,500,000 by Lahore Transport Company (LTC) Chairman Khawaja Ahmed Hasaan on behalf of NA-126 to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Gujrat Chamber of Commerce and Industries and traders of Gujrat gave a cheque for Rs 20.76 million, a cheque for Rs 50,00,000 by Parliamentary Secretary Rana Arshad on behalf of citizens of Nanaka Sahib, a cheque of twenty hundred thousand rupees by MPA Majid Zahoor on behalf of workers of PP-140 and a cheque for Rs 21,00,000 by Sialkot MPA Rana Muhammad Iqbal Harna to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Shahbaz said that active participation by philanthropists in this noble cause is commendable. He said that the spirit of sacrifice of those helping their brothers and sisters in distress is highly appreciable.
Shahbaz said that the Punjab government has sent relief items worth millions of rupees to Bannu for IDPs through more than 70 trucks. Forty trucks carrying fodder for the animals of displaced people have also been sent to Bannu. Sewing machines and other necessary items have also been sent for IDPs. He said that the Punjab government has also given financial assistance of Rs 7,000 per displaced family, adding that gifts will also be distributed among the displaced families on Eidul Fitr.
