The Supreme Court (SC) has rejected Sindh police report in Perveen Rehmani’s murder case and gave one month period to police to arrest the culprits.
The court also directed the police to present detailed report in this respect before it. A 2-member bench of the SC presided over by Justice Gulzar Ahmad took up the case for hearing on Thursday.
The Sindh additional advocate general (AAG) presented the report in the court and told that a joint investigation team comprising DIG CID Khawaja Sultan and other officers had been constituted to conduct detailed inquiry of this incident and present report.
The court expressed dissatisfaction over the report and remarked that no action had not been taken against the culprits and the police seemed busy only in constituting investigation teams.
The AAG told the court that all the steps were being taken for arresting the accused and prayed the court to grant more time for arresting the accused. Justice Gulzar Ahmad remarked: “Police should know that one year has already elapsed and the evidence will destroy with the passage of time.”
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed remarked: “Let us congratulate police on such investigation. How sorrowful it is that a life has been lost and whereabouts of the culprits have not traced out yet.”
Justice Gulzar said: “Had police taken action against the culprits, they would have been apprehended.”
However, the law officer requested the court to give time. The court adjourned the hearing of the case for one month and summoned report from the police.
