As many as 16 fishermen went missing when their boat sunk near Mubarak Village here on Sunday.

According to initial reports, the fishermen sought refuge on top of a boat as it toppled there. However, the boat and men could not be sighted any more. The Hawks Bay Emergency Response Centre said the fishermen were aboard the boat, named Dhonda, when it sank due to the strong current. Maritime Security Agency’s Colonel Omar said it was not possible to rescue the men by sending boats owing to the high tide in the sea. He further said Pakistan Navy had been asked to send helicopters to rescue them.

Meanwhile, the officials of maritime security agency had been dispatched to recover the fishermen. It should be noted that the Karachi commissioner had prohibited the citizens and fishermen for going into open sea due to rough conditions.
