The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) increased the gas tariff up to 14 per cent on Friday.

According to Ogra, the latest increase in gas tariff is made on recommendations of the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).

An approval has been given for increase of Rs 58.29 per mmbtu (million British thermal unit) or about 14 per cent average increase in its prescribed price for SNGPL, to Rs464.94 per mmbtu. Similarly, the price for SSGCL has now been fixed at Rs469 per mmbtu after an increase of Rs22.9 per mmbtu.

According to officials, the summary of latest price hike had been sent to the ministry of petroleum. The ministry has the authority to retain same rates for domestic consumers and increase the same for other sectors. Ogra officials said companies would not increase gas rates for domestic consumers if the government provided subsidy to the consumers.
