PAL holds literary conference on great Sufi saint

Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) held annual literary conference on the advent of the Urs of great Sufi Saint Hazrat Makhdoom Muhammad Usman al-Marvandi (RA), known as Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.

The conference was jointly organised by Shah Abul Latif Bhittai Social and Cultural Association and PAL which was chaired by prominent scholar Archaeological and Historical Association of Pakistan Chairman Dr Ghuzanfer Hussain Mehdi and member of Sufi Council.

Speaking on the occasion, Mehdi urged to curb terrorism and sectarianism by promoting the teachings of Sufis like Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar (RA).

Highlighting the great struggle by the Sufis in the frontier region, he said that the Sufis in that area fought against the terrorists involved in looting and plundering innocent people.

Meanwhile, Social and Cultural Association Secretary General Zahid Jatoi presented resolution in which he appealed to prime minister to direct Capital Development Authority (CDA) to rehabilitate “Punj Peer”.

It is a historical site near Zero Point where Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar (RA), Ghaus Bahaudin Zakriya (RA), Hazrat Shah Shams Tabraiz (RA), Hazrat Baba Frid Uddin (RA) and Hazrat Jallal Sulehri (RA) used to sit at this place for worship and preaching, he added.

Syed Javed Ali Shah presented the resolution which was unanimously approved in which Ulema, Mashaiekh and scholars and intellectuals extended full support to Pakistan Army to curb terrorism and to rehabilitate the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in various parts of country.

Special prayer was offered for the victory and “fateha” was offered for the martyrs of Pakistan Army, who sacrificed their lives in the war against terrorism.

Scholars including Dr Saim Ali Somroo, Iftikhar Ahmed, Raja Saqib Javed, Qasim Haider, Badar Somroo and Miss Rahela also addressed the conference.
