The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif through secretary establishment division, secretary education, minister for water and power and Dr Mukhtar Ahmad and sought replies from them in the case whereby appointment of Higher Education Commission HEC chairman has been challenged.
A single bench of the IHC, led by Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui took up the case for hearing on Wednesday.
Shoaib Shaheen, counsel for petitioner Arsal Ikram appeared in the court and took the plea that the government has illegally appointed Mukhtar Ahmad as HEC chairman. He does not qualify for the post of chairman HEC.
He argued that the government has started appointing its favourites at key posts and requested the court to nullify the appointment of the HEC chairman.
The hearing of the case was adjourned till July 7.
