LAHORE – Grade five and eight students and their parents expressed displeasure over the Punjab Examination Commission (PEC)’s inability to communicate the annual result.
Parents claimed that PEC did not issue a press release or a gazette to notify the students of the result. They said PEC’s attitude was ‘unfriendly’ and was unlike Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore’s, which properly communicated the result. Schools’ administrations were also annoyed at PEC and said that PEC officials were paid high but their performance was not satisfactory.
Though the result was available on the website on Friday (after one day’s delay), its viewing required adobe reader, a software which many parents and school administrations complained they did not have to view the result. They lamented that even in the software’s presence, the result was difficult to access as it had a long list that one had to go through. Shahzad, father of a class five student, told Pakistan Today that he visited PEC’s office to get the result but they sent me to the EDO office instead. He said that he also tried to fetch the result from the website but was unable to do so despite several attempts.
More than 2.6 million students from across Punjab, who appeared in the exams, faced difficulties accessing the result. School authorities said that PEC had not provided the stats about the position holders and they should have had arranged a proper prize-distribution ceremony to reward the deserving students. PEC officials said that the result was available on their website. Education EDO Dr Pervaiz Akhter also claimed on Thursday that 25 centres were available to communicate the result but was not available for comment on Friday.
