Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that the country cannot afford confrontation and violence at this critical juncture.
The premier said this during a meeting with Punjab Governor Muhammad Sarwar, who briefed Sharif about his interaction with Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri on Monday.
The governor informed the PM about Qadri’s demands.
The prime minister said the country cannot afford confrontation and violence at this stage. He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government believes in political dialogue to resolve issues.
Sharif said that the government intends to end crises in the country and set it on the path of development. He said economic development of the country was the main objective of the government which will be achieved, come what may. He said that democracy will be strengthened and the country will be made prosperous.
RETURN NOT AN OPTION:
Meanwhile in Rawalpindi, Federal Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid said that PAT chief Qadri had arrived in Pakistan on his own will but would leave the country when he was allowed by the law.
Talking to reporters outside Rawalpindi’s District Headquarters Hospital, Rashid said the government would take strict measures to tackle individuals like Qadri to foil their efforts of spreading anarchy in the country.
He said the world had seen how stick-wielding PAT workers had resorted to violence against police personnel on the directives of Qadri, which was highly regrettable and condemnable.
Rashid said the government had not created any hurdles over Qadri’s return to Pakistan, but added that the law would take its course in the violent incidents that left over 100 personnel of Islamabad and Punjab police injured.
Sinse when Punjab became a country.
