Residents and commuters of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad suffered the most on Sunday and Monday as all roads and linkages were blocked by the Rawalpindi administration with trucks and trailers.

The commuters moved from road to road to find some entry point into Rawalpindi on Sunday evening while returning from work from Islamabad and adjoining areas. There were long queues of vehicles on every road leading to Rawalpindi but the administration looked least bothered.

The situation got worst on Monday morning when all the loaded trucks were parked on IJ Principal Road from Faizabad to Railways carriage factory.

The government and private sector workers who were to report for their duty in Islamabad shuffled on one side of the IJP Road to find some opening to Islamabad but to no avail.

What was more shocking was that some ambulances were seen stuck on the road with emergency patients. Several people complained that they were unable to take the dead bodies of their relatives to their villages out of Rawalpindi as all the roads were closed and no one was listening to them.

The highly enraged relatives of the deceased said that they had never witnessed such scenes in their life and it looked that some foreign power has launched an all out war against Pakistan. They accused the Rawalpindi administration for extreme measures without keeping in view the difficulties and sufferings of the people and said mere tendering of apology for inconvenience is not enough.

Many people said that public meetings and rallies should be constitutionally banned and anyone violating the rule be arrested and tried for creating law and order problem.

They said that Pakistan was created for peace and security of people and not for vested interest of politicians, whose frequent rallies have made their life miserable.

One person who identified himself as Arshad at Benazir Bhutto airport said that he was waiting for his son who was coming from Dubai to get out of the airport so that he could attend the funeral of his mother. He said the dead body would decay if they did not reach home in Chakwal by the afternoon.

There were many others who had similar complaints and none to address them.

Many people said that all the political leaders were giving statements in support or opposition of Tahirul Qadri but no one is concerned about their difficulties.

  1. Why is the govt so scared of Qadri? What is he asking for that is so unreasonable and extreme? His demands only mean better future for Pakistan.
