KARACHI-

Seven dead bodies were recovered early on Tuesday morning from a cold-storage facility of a cargo complex at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, reported a private news channel.

Airport officials said the victims had taken refuge in the cargo shed to hide from the gunfire but got trapped when the building caught fire at the height of the battle.

Rescue teams recovered the bodies after nearly 28 hours after destroying the walls of the cold-storage facility.

The death toll of Sunday’s attack rose to 34 with the recovery of seven bodies.

They (security forces) were busy killing militants and clearing the area, nobody bothered to rescue these trapped men,” said Abdul Rehman, whose brother was among those killed. “They could have been saved if timely rescue efforts had been made.”

According to Sindh Health Minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed, the bodies were burnt badly and unrecognisable. They were shifted to Jinnah Hospital for DNA tests in order to identify them. They will be handed over to the families after identification.

Ahmed added that one personnel of Airport Security Force (ASF) personnel was still missing.

Social work organisations and army personnel assisted in the rescue operation to retrieve the dead bodies.

A spokesperson for Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said that the seven people trapped in the cargo facility had remained in contact with their family members through mobile phones.

The family members had held a protest at Sharah-e-Faisal on Monday night, demanding to rescue those trapped in the cold-storage facility.

  1. This sad, shameful and disgusting! What the hell is government waiting for? An immediate military operation needs to begin in Karachi to arrest and execute the Kafir Scum carrying out these attacks. May these TTP LEJ low lifes burn in Hell.
