Hostel’s chief warden says Kashmiri boys’ removal was recommended by official enquiry committee

A day after a Kashmiri student was beaten up at a local educational institute of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, four Kashmiri students were expelled from their hostel on Saturday.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the students, identified as, Peer Umair, Bilal Ahmad, Adil Nabi and Dilawar Javid, were told by the college authorities to vacate the hostel.

The students were pursuing BBA and B Tech degrees at H R Institute of Engineering and Technology.

“Yes, the students have been asked to leave the hostel,” Anil Tyagi, Chief Warden of the college stated, while speaking to the media.

“Their removal was recommended by the official committee which was assigned to investigate the matter,” he added.

He refused to comment why the students were expelled.

“The committee recommended and it had to be done,” he further remarked.

One of the students, Javid told Srinagar-based media via phone that authorities should have punished the local senior students instead of throwing them out.

Scores of Kashmiri students studying at the university had complained that they were beaten up and ragged by seniors while the institute’s authorities did not take action against the accused students, police said on June 6.

Police had stated that a Kashmiri student of B-Tech first year at HR Institute was using the toilet in the hostel where he sustained an electric shock.

As he cried out for help, senior students from B-Tech third year rushed and inquired about the reason for shouting — which they had called as disturbing since they were busy in exam preparations.

The student, Mohammad Omar, had explained the reason but the senior students, instead of consoling him, thrashed him. The incident had snowballed into a clash in which the Kashmiri students say that about 50 of them were injured.
