Waste Busters selected for SACOSAN 2011

LAHORE – The Ministry of Environment, Government of Pakistan has nominated the CLEAN PAKISTAN campaign launched by the Waste Busters as a model of Best Practices in sustainable waste management at the South Asian Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN) 2011 being held in Sri Lanka from April 4-8, 2011. The regional conference hosted by SAARC countries is supported by multilateral donor agencies such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
The overall objective of the SACOSAN is to accelerate the development of sanitation and hygiene processes in South Asia and to share expertise amongst the member countries. This year, the CLEAN PAKISTAN campaign is being highlighted in the conference as a Best Practice solution in community based solid waste management and as a tool for generating income and poverty alleviation by recycling of waste. Waste Busters is now counted amongst the leading environmental organisations in the region and have been recognised internationally by the development agencies such as the Asian Development Bank and the UNDP. The Pakistan delegation is led by the Federal Secretary Environment Khawaja Naeem and will be accompanied by representatives of civil society, corporate sector and government officials.
