*Salman Rafique says no polio case in Punjab

Due to effective and vigorous anti-polio campaigns, no polio case has been reported in Punjab, said advisor to Punjab chief minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique while talking to journalists after administering polio vaccine drops in Garhi Shahu on the day 3 of special anti-polio campaign in the provincial capital on Wednesday.

Rafique said that according to the recommendations of the WHO the  range of anti-polio campaign has been extended from 73 union councils to a total of 165 UCs of Lahore and 3800 mobile health teams were busy administering  polio drops to 1 million and 57 thousand children of up to five years of age.

Rafique said that polio reservoirs exist in KPK and FATA, and some children out of thousands of families travelling to Punjab carry polio virus.

He cited positive sewerage water samples indicating that the type of polio virus found was similar to that virus, and also reiterated that anti-polio campaign would continue until environmental samples of the city were fully negative.
