Prime Minister’s fee reimbursement scheme for the students of less developed areas will be officially launched under the aegis of Prime Minister Youth Programe (PMYP) today (Monday) at Peshawar.

The PMFRS was already launched in Balochistan by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on May 21, 2014. This was decided in a high-level review meeting chaired by the Chairperson of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programe (PMYP) Motharma Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday. The meeting decided that the Chairperson of the PMYP will handover 100 percent fee reimbursement cheques at Peshawar among the students hailing from the less developed areas of KPK and FATA undertaking MA, MSc, MS, M Phill or PhD courses from the HEC recognized public sector universities.

The meeting was informed that out of the total 30,000 post graduate students hailing from less developed areas of the country, more than 6000 post-graduate students hailing from KPK and FATA will benefit from the 1.20 billion rupees scheme launched by the present democratic government to encourage the pursuit of higher education for the students facing financial constraints. The scheme will sponsor the 100pc educational expenses of the post-graduate students of less developed areas of the country including FATA, AJK and GB in the FY 2013-14, the meeting was informed.

The chairperson of the PMYP told the participants of the meeting that the present democratic dispensation had turned economic challenges into opportunities and promises into reality by launching an economically viable, Transparency International’s certified and socially hailed apolitical Prime Minister’s Youth Programme. She maintained that the students of Balochistan were the first to benefit from the PM’s 100pc fee reimbursements scheme which testifies the intention of the present democratic government to provide equal opportunities to the students of less developed area of the country vis-a-vis of the developed areas and added that now the non availability of finances would no more be the reason to attain higher education.

Under the scheme, students domiciled in interior Sindh, Southern Punjab, Balochistan, less developed areas of KP, FATA, AJK and GB will be reimbursed 100pc educational expenses to encourage them to attain higher education.

The meeting also approved the schedule for reimbursement of 100pc educational expenses to the students hailing from Southern Punjab, Interior Sind, AJK and GB before the end of June 2014. The meeting was attended by senior officials of the PMYP and Higher Education Commission.
