Cell phone imports swell 0.48pc in 10 months

The mobile phone imports into the country increased by 0.48 percent during first 10 months of the year 2013-14 over the same period of last year.

The imports of mobile phone into the country during July-April (2013-14) were recorded at $516.239 million against the imports of $513.772 million during July-April (2012-13), according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Similarly the mobile phone imports into the country during the month of April 2014 increased by 0.31 percent and decreased by 13.06 percent when compared to the imports in April 2013 and March 2014 respectively.

The mobile phone imports during April 2014 stood at $38.967 million against the imports of $38.848 million in April 2013 and $44.82 million in March 2014, the data revealed.

The country’s trade deficit narrowed by 2.51 percent during first 10 months of current fiscal year as exports expanded by 12.21 percent while imports witnessing a growth of 8.81 percent as compared to the same period of last year.

On year-on-year basis, the trade deficit increased by 20.76 percent in April 2014 when compared to the deficit of the same month of last year, according to the latest data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

According to break up figures, the exports from the country during July-April (2013-14) were recorded at $20.997 billion against the exports of $20.143 billion recorded during July-April 2012-13.

On the other hand, the imports into the country during the period under review were recorded at $37.105 billion against the imports of $36.665 billion during the corresponding period of last year.
