A meeting of representatives of all the five contractors, concerned officials of Capital Development Authority (CDA), SNGPL, NESPAK, IESCO and other relevant formations was held under the chairmanship of CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal to review the progress of work on the Islamabad portion of Metro Bus Project as well as to discuss the issues and to evolve a comprehensive strategy to resolve the issues.
The meeting, held at the site office situated at the junction of IJP Road and 9thAvenue on Saturday, was informed that there are three major issues being faced on the Islamabad portion of Metro Bus Project namely absence of comprehensive traffic plan, shifting of services lines and problems of dust and mud being created due to digging and construction work.
CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal constituted a joint team of technical persons comprising of the representatives of CDA, SNGPL and NESPAK and contractors and directed them to sit jointly and finalise shifting of service lines from the right of way of this project immediately so that the work on the Metro Bus Project may proceed unhindered. These committees would visit the site today and come up with comprehensive and detailed plan of action for shifting these utility lines without causing any delay on ongoing work and causing minimum nuisance to the public.
To overcome the issue of traffic, the CDA chairman said that they were well aware of the issues and directed the consultant of the project to sit with the Traffic Engineer of CDA, representatives of contractors and Islamabad Traffic Police to devise comprehensive traffic and security plans for the routes where the work on the Metro Bus Project is being carried out.
He stressed that convenience and facilitation of the public is our first and foremost priority. He directed all concerned that the comprehensive traffic plan should be evolved in consultation with all concerned and diversion boards, which are visible, should be installed at all the roads which have been blocked due to construction work. He also directed the installation of revolving lights and reflectors at construction and excavation venues to avert any accident at night.
The chairman further directed the contractor to dump the debris at specific dumping site already allocated and identified by the CDA. He said that debris and other material should not be left on the site or on the road side but should be disposed off on daily basis to save the public from inconvenience. He assured the meeting that CDA would extend full support and help to all concerned to overcome the issues being faced and would go to any length to resolve these hurdles at the earliest.
