The Punjab Assembly (PA) witnessed ruckus on Friday as the government and opposition members shouted slogans against each other over various issues.

The atmosphere was charged and the assembly presented the look of a fish mart.

At the start of the assembly session, independent member Ahsan Riaz Fatiana pointed lack of quorum due to which the session was suspended for 30 minutes. After resumption of the session, minister Col (r) Shujaa Khanzada congratulated the treasury and opposition members over metro train project which infuriated the opposition members. They stood up on their seats and protested against non provision of development funds by the government.

The PTI members Mian Aslam Iqbal, Saadia Sohail, and PPP’s Sardar Shahabuddin kept blowing whistles in the House to record their protest. The acting speaker issued a stern warning that he will be compelled to take strict action if the members continued blowing whistles. The opposition members besieged the dais of Acting Speaker Sardar Sher Ali Gorchani and chanted slogans against the government and the speaker.

In response, the government members also rose up in their seats and chanted slogans against the PTI and its leader Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, talking to media outside the Assembly, Punjab Opposition Leader Mehmoodur Rashid said the opposition would continue its protests if the government did not change its attitude. He said they would not even allow Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to enter the Punjab Assembly if the government did not bring improvement. He said the opposition members in the Punjab Assembly were denied their rights.

He said the government was conducting drone attacks on the constituencies of the opposition members by denying them development funds.

PML-N lawmaker Abdur Razzaq said the PTI has lost its mind after repeated defeats. He said after defeat in Narowal, the PTI would face the same fate in Hafizabad on May 29.
