ISLAMABAD – The Senate on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution to condemn the Swabi Interchange blast in which several innocent people lost their life. The resolution moved by Senator Azam Khan Swati demanded the government hold an immediate investigation into the incident, identify the culprits and bring them to justice.
Speaking on the occasion, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Senator Ismail Buledi condemned the incident, saying the government had failed to provide security to the citizens of the country. Another JUI-F Senator Rehmatullah Kakar said the findings of the investigations be presented in the House and demanded the culprits be brought to justice.
Senators including Raza Rabbani, Zahid Khan, Sheerala Malik, Zafar Ali Shah, Professor Khurshid Ahmad and Saleh Shah also condemned the incident and asked the government to fight out terrorists and do the needful to protect the citizens. Later, Leader of the House, Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari assured the House that the government would present an investigation report on the incident in the House.
He said the government would expose the elements involved in the incident. Earlier, senators welcomed Afghanistan’s parliamentary delegation in the House. They hoped that the brotherly ties between both the countries would improve in the future, as the leadership from both sides believed that they could frustrate the evil designs of the enemy together. Senator Jehangir Badr was of the view that a stable Afghanistan was in the interest of Pakistan.
Senator Nayyar Hussain Bokhari underlined the need for more coordinated efforts to chalk out a strategy to maintain peaceful atmosphere in the region. Senator Zafar Ali Shah hoped that with joint efforts, foreign forces would soon have to leave the war-ridden country. Jamaat-e-Islami’s Khurshid Ahmad urged both countries to join hands to frustrate US conspiracy, while Azam Khan Swati stressed upon both the countries to recognise their real enemy first and then evolve a strategy to frustrate its designs.
Meanwhile Chairman Senate Faorooq Naek referred to the committee concerned the sale of 40 kilometer-long railway track between Ahmad Pur Sharqia and the Panjnad Headworks worth Rs 3.8 billion in Rs 90 million to a private firm. He also issued directives that report on the deal should be submitted in the House within a week.
