While Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Narendra Modi, PML-N media adviser Tariq Azam termed it a “bold and an unexpected move”.

Talking to reporters, he said that the PM’s visit would ease out tension between both nuclear neighbours.

To a question about current political situation, Shah said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) does not believe in opposition for the sake of opposition but supports every step taken for democracy.

“Any step taken against the democracy will not bring good results,” he added.

Tariq Azam, the PML-N media adviser, told NDTV in an interview, “It’s a bold and an unexpected move,” and added that Nawaz Sharif “does not share the anxiety that is felt by some quarters here in Pakistan because he has got some very fond memories of the previous BJP Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee coming to Lahore and he hopes that this anxiety about Modi and his past will fade away.”
