LAHORE – Cricket fever gripped Pakistan and India on Tuesday ahead of the World Cup showdown between the historic foes, a sporting rivalry unrivaled by any other in the world.
The South Asian neighbours are scheduled to meet today (Wednesday) in the World Cup semi-final in the competition’s biggest match yet by far, but heavy rain in Mohali on Tuesday could cause the match to be postponed to Thursday, the reserve day for the match.
If the match cannot take place on Thursday either, Pakistan will go through to the final based on a superior finish in their group compared to India. “The local forecast for tomorrow is partly cloudy sky with less chance of rain,” an Indian Met official said.
Speculation has reached a crescendo about the outcome of the epic clash. Many offices in both countries are expected to shut for the afternoon and all tickets for the 30,000-capacity stadium have been sold. The match will be broadcast live on giant screens across Pakistan.
