Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reinstated Zaka Ashraf as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman on Saturday.
The court has also directed to restore 38 sacked employees of the board. With this decision, Zaka Ashraf has become the PCB chief for the third time.
In its verdict, the court has annulled the appointment of Najam Sethi as the PCB chairman and also dissolved the acting committee appointed by him.
Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi in his verdict said that the formation of interim management committee was wrong and against legal procedures.
On welcoming the court’s decision, Zaka Ashraf expressed his wish to meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and urged him for an appointment. He continued saying that the decision is actually the victory of democracy in cricket and has announced to resume his position at the PCB headquarters from Monday.
The verdict came in response to the petition filed by Zaka Ashraf against his removal on directives of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
While talking to media, former chief selector Amir Sohail welcomed the decision and said that the verdict has restored world’s belief on Pakistani courts.
This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
A great decision by the Islamabad High Court. It has established the freedom of courts. No executive can muscle some crony into power asnd ruin the gentleman's game in an ungentle man manner.. Removal of Najam Sethi proves that Zaka Ashraf was right all along. His powerful friends must be perturbed over ot. Zaka must get on with the job of rebuilding the team. He should forget meeting the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He does not matter now. He has been reduced to his size by the independent Court's fair decision. The wrangling must end. Najam Sethi must forget his dream for the Chairmanship of the PCB.
Leave the board and cricket in safe hands of Zaka Ashraf. Due to this cat and mouse fighting the game of cricket has suffered tremendously in Pakistan. We have lot to make up in this on going battle. We commend the decision and rejoice in the victory of the wronged person.
