Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif spoke to Narendra Modi on Friday and congratulated him on the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP)’s impressive victory in the general elections in India.

Talking to Modi via telephone, Sharif invited him to Pakistan and said that Pakistan always intends to foster amicable relations with its neighbouring country.

BJP leader and incoming premier, Modi has spent thirteen years as chief minister of India’s Gujrat state but has never been in the government at national level.

This was the first-ever contact between PM Sharif and Modi, the soon-to-be Indian PM.

“PM Sharif also expressed the desire that the BJP victory would promote peace and stability in the region,” said Adviser to PM Sartaj Aziz.
