Wattoo says no chance of formation of political alliance such as Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI)

There is no chance of formation of another political alliance on the pattern of Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI) as being feared in some quarters, said Pakistan Peoples’ Party Punjab President Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Wattoo maintained that such political alliance was mismatch in the wake of divergence of views among Pakistan Awami Tehreek, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf and Jamat-e-Isalmi.

Wattoo said that Tahirul Qadri wanted wrapping up of the present political system altogether along with reduction in the role of the chief executive, massive changes in the electoral system and the restructuring of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). He said that the reforms in the ECP were necessary to ensure fair, free and impartial elections in absolute terms so that no one could question the credibility of the elections held. He recalled that the PPP also raised reservations on the credibility of the elections results but accepted them purely for the sake of the continuity of the political process in the country.
