The statement of the main accused in the murder of an O’ Level student in Karachi earlier this May has not been recorded yet.

It was reported that the father of the main accused was becoming an obstacle in the investigation process. However, the other four suspects were presented before the court on Friday and were sent on a four-day physical remand.

While speaking to the media in Karachi, the special prosecutor said the main accused was not sent on a physical remand as it was necessary for him to appear before the court.

An 18-year-old student of O’ Levels was shot dead at 2am on May 8 while he was studying in his balcony. The young man, Suleman Lashari, was allegedly targeted by a police officer’s son, Salman Abro, who came to Lashari’s house along with five police constables to settle an argument.

The guards deployed at Lashari’s house retaliated and the victim’s brother, Zeeshan, also joined in after getting his weapon from his room. Abro was also injured in the exchange of fire and one of his police guards, constable Zaheer Ahmed, was killed. Abro is critically injured and is currently admitted to Ziauddin Hospital. The incident had also left Lashari’s guard, Ali Bugti, injured.

An FIR No 235/2014 has been registered by the deceased’s brother at the Darakhshan police station against Abro and the four police constables – Muhammad Rasheed, Yasin, Maqbool and Imran. The name of the deceased police constable has not been added in the FIR which includes Sections 302, 324 and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. The four surviving policemen are in police custody while Abro will be arrested when he recovers from his injuries. The police have also seized the Vigo and the weapons.
