NAWABSHAH-
Three people, including a woman, were killed while 20 others were injured when the engine and four compartments of Karachi- bound Karakoram Expressed derailed near Bandhi station, some 30 kilometers from Nawabshah, earlier on Wednesday.
The express was on its way from Faisalabad when the accident occurred.
Locals in the area rushed to the site to rescue the victims.
Three were reported killed while the 20 injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Some of the injured were reported critical.
The event led to suspension of the railway schedule at different stations.
The passengers of the affected train were shifted to the Karachi-bound Sukkur express.
Federal Minister for Railways, Khwaja Saad Rafique said that the incident will be investigated to ascertain the cause.
He announced compensation of Rs 5, 000, 000 for the families of the victims while Rs 1,000,000 for those injured.
