LAHORE – Title holders WAPDA went closer to retaining the title when they breezed into the semi-finals of the 46th National Men’s Volleyball Championship, beating Punjab in straight sets here on Monday at WAPDA Sports Complex. WAPDA, who remain unbeaten in the tournament, claimed another victory by defeating Punjab 25-18, 25-17, and 25-10 in 75 minutes. Irfan Nawaz, Farooq Khan and Zaheer Khan were WAPDA’s key players for the match.
Abuzar and Muhammad Kashif tried to lift the listless Punjab team, but failed because of Punjab’s late approach and lethargic blocking and attacking. Meanwhile, Police beat Navy in straight sets 25-13-25-15, 25-18. Navy’s efforts appeared a pale shadow of their earlier performances, lacking in all departments of the game, especially in defense. Army defeated Railways 25-20, 25-14, 25-17 in 67 minutes. PAF routed KPK in straight sets 25-10, 25-19, 25-14. PAF, with sizzling serves and rock-solid defense, simply outsmarted KPK. Today is the last day of the quarter-final league matches. The semi-finals will be played on Wednesday.
