Governor urges media to play positive role

LAHORE

Punjab Governor Muhammad Sarwar on Friday said that parliament, judiciary, army and media are the main pillars of the country.
He urged the media to create an atmosphere of reconciliation instead of confrontation among institutions so that they can play pivotal role in the national development and progress. He said this during a meeting with journalists who are life-time members of the Lahore Press Club, who called on Sarwar at the Governor’s House.
The governor said that media while reporting should always take care of the national interest and integrity because any negative impression creating in all national media was taken as lethal weapons against Pakistan in foreign media. He said, “Pakistan is blessed with lots of potential and resources, agriculture land is fertile giving the best production, our peasants are hard working, overseas Pakistanis are contributing in the national exchequer by sending more than $15 billion every year and our industrialists are doing their best despite the energy crises.”
He said that the media should portray a positive and healthy image of Pakistan so that the international community could understand that Pakistan was a peace loving and fast growing country.
The governor said that impact of pen was deeper than sword and the power of media should be used in a constructive manner for the betterment and progress of the country. He said, “The government has put the economy on the right track and now its our duty to bring the nation on one page on all the national issues.”
He urged the journalists that they should high light people’s problems and should also guide government in solving these problems. He lauded the role of media in creating awareness among the people.
Speaking on the occasion, the journalists praised the governor’s role for the promotion of education as well as the provision of clean water in the province. They said that the people of Punjab were lucky that they got a visionary, energetic and hard-working governor.
