Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon has alleged that the federal government has failed to eradicate loadshedding from the country.

Talking to reporters outside the Sindh Assembly on Wednesday, he said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had pledged to eradicate loadshedding within six months, but instead of honoring its committment, the federal government had eradicated electricity from the country.

Memon said several areas which had no electricity meters installed were being sent presumed monthly bills by the authorities concerned, adding that State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali was busy recovering line losses from the general public.

He also questioned that under which law was the Supreme Court’s power supply restored within 15 minutes.

Power supply to the apex court and many other top institutions was terminated on April 29 but was restored later in the day on the orders of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Memon said the state minister for water and power had also disconnected the power supply to the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) even though the Sindh High Court (SHC) had said otherwise.

The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) had disconnected the supply to WASA after the state minister had asked for the recovery of Rs 28 billion arrears from the provincial and federal government. Managing Director Saleemuddin had filed a contempt petition and won a stay order from the SHC.

Memon further alleged that Ali did not even respect the court’s decision.

Responding to a question, he claimed that law and order situation in Karachi had improved and rangers were busy in a full-fledged action against terrorists.

Memon said action by the law enforcement agencies against street crimes and other criminal activities has helped in overcoming the law and order crisis, adding that terrorists were now targeting officials in Sindh.
