The National Judicial Policy Making Committee (NJPMC) on Monday clarified a news item published in different newspapers on Sunday regarding judicial officers joining the Executive.

The Law Division clarified that the policy decision taken earlier of not sending judicial officers on deputation to executive departments was reiterated in the meeting of the committee held on April 26, and the decision to allow judicial officers to join other than judicial posts is confined only to the Law Division and law departments of the federation and the provinces.

“A judicial officer is allowed only to join the Law Division and law departments. He or she shall quit the judiciary and would not be a judicial officer from then onwards. The permission to allow a judicial officer to quit judicial service and join the Executive would only be granted by the Administration Committee of the respective High Court,” said the committee in a statement.

Law Division Secretary Raja Akhlaq Hussain said in view of the said account, there was no reversal of the decision taken earlier by the ex CJP Iftikhar Chaudhary, and the principle of separation of Judiciary from Executive continues to be adhered to.
