Sindh Governor Eshrat-ul-Ibad Khan has said that morale of law enforcement agencies should remain high for achieving the desired results.
The governor was addressing the participants of Command and Staff College Course on Thursday at the Governor’s House. The governor said these institutions were guarding the borders of the country with complete public support behind their back.
“Being a nation we should raise the morale of our protectors,” he added. The governor said unfortunately for the last few years the law enforcement agencies had become the main target of the enemies. In reply to a query, he said Karachi was the commercial hub of the country which generated 60 to 70 percent of revenue. He said Karachi was the industrial hub of the country and investors loved to invest in Pakistan, especially in the city.
He said every one wanted peace in Karachi, however, there were four main reasons behind the poor law and order situation of the city including terrorism, kidnapping for ransom, target killing and extortion.
Eshrat said there were banned organisations involved in most of the terrorist activities in Karachi. He said after the Abbas Town incident on March 2 last year, a targeted operation was launched in the city against criminal elements and many of them belonging to banned outfits or using their names were arrested.
The governor said during general elections strict security measures were taken which could be understood by the fact that two attempts of suicide bombing were foiled by the LEA and the elections were held peacefully. He further said that Karachi had many threats but effective strategy and strict security measures were helping to control the situation.
In reply to another question, the governor said that the prime minister took notice of the poor law and order of Karachi in August last year and on the instructions of the federal government an operation against criminals was launched in September and since then significant fall was noticed in the crime rate. He said law enforcers had made many sacrifices to maintain law and order in the city.
