Afghan poliovirus present in Peshawar: KP minister

The presence of Afghan poliovirus in Peshawar sewerage water has come to the fore on Sunday.
Its presence has been disclosed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Shahram Khan. He said that World Health Organization (WHO) has disclosed the presence of Afghan Polio Virus in sewerage water of Peshawar.
“WHO organization took water samples from two union councils of Peshawar, Larma and Shaheen, on February 26 and declared presence of Afghan poliovirus in the samples”, said the health minister.
According to WHO, the poliovirus present in the water sample of Larma Union Council belonged to Kantar while that of Shaheen belonged to Khyber Agency’s District Bara.
Khan urged the Afghan and Pakistan’s federal governments to take serious and immediate measures to restrict the spread of poliovirus in Peshawar.
