Anti-polio campaign kicks off in Karachi

KARACHI – Karachi Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed inaugurated a polio eradication campaign in Karachi by administering polio vaccines to children in the Civic Centre on Thursday.
The campaign will be carried out until April 6. Syed also gave a cheque of Rs 10,000 with appreciation certificates to Liaquatabad Town administrator and his staff for achieving 100 percent results during a recent polio eradication campaign.
Town administrators, town health officers, representatives of WHO, UNICEF and NGOs attended the inaugural ceremony while Health EDO Nasir Javed, Enterprise and Investment Promotion EDO Dr Saifur Rehman, Education EDO Ibrahim Kanbhar and Revenue Additional EDO Matanat Ali Khan were also present on the occasion.
The city administrator also gave appreciation certificates to administrator, town health officer and other staff of various towns of Karachi including SITE, Baldia, Orangi, Lyari, Jamshed, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Landhi, Korangi and Malir.
Pointing out that Pakistan is among the countries fighting against polio, he appealed that the citizens take this campaign seriously and contact on complaint number 1339. The programme was also addressed by the Health EDO including other personalities.
