The ministry of petroleum and natural resources has decided to send all the objections against Elengy Terminal Pakistan Limited (ETPL) to SGS Pakistan, the consultant company on the project for their review.

A source privy to the Ministry concerned informed ‘Online’ that SGS Pakistan, a top consultant company is being requested by the Ministry for Petroleum and Natural Resources to review the various objections posed against the Elengy Terminal Pakistan Limited.

Elengy Terminal Pakistan Limited (ETPL) is seeking license for the construction of country’s first LNG terminal at Post Qasim, however has been pointed out with several objections and questions regarding its some of incomplete pre-requisites.

Among these in complete pre-requisites, the company still has to acquire one of the Non-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of Defence, that in accordance with the statement of CEO, ETPL was in process.

Another strong objection rose by the various stakeholders is about the lack of pre-requisite studies namely the Hydrolic and HAZOP studies.

Another source told ‘Online’, that the opponents who oppose awarding of license for the construction of country’s first LNG terminal at Post Qasim also points out that after the construction of the terminal the security risk in the area because of it would rise ten-fold, affecting the other business activities in the area.

Port Qasim Authorities board that is recently been constituted has still to process the approval to the LNG terminal construction, as well as issuing NoC to the Elengy Terminal Pakistan Limited.

These and many other objections in relation with the awarding of license for the construction of mega LNG terminal to the ETPL would not be processed to the consultant firm of the project SGS Pakistan.

SGS Pakistan after detailed review would provide consultation to the ministry concerned regarding issuance of license to the ETPL for the construction of LNG terminal that is scheduled to be stated by current year.

After the construction of the terminal, country’s capacity to store LNG would be enhanced and the services may also be used by the various private companies as well.
