Supreme Court’s Justice Mushir Alam said that he was pressurised for an oath following the 2007 emergency, but he remained steadfastly opposed.
Addressing an event here on Sunday under the aegis of Industrial Relation Advisors Association (IRAA) in his Justice (r) Shahid Anwar Bajwa’s honor, Mushir Alam thanked the assistance of bar association and lawyers unity for accomplishing noble obligations and remaining steadfast for two years during lawyers movement which brought successful results.
He said after the 2009 reinstatement, he served as the chief justice of the SHC while currently he was serving as justice in the Supreme Court. “Small things build a character and whatever I did for labour courts during my SHC tenure, it was in the best interests of the nation,” he said, adding that industrialists and tycoons employed suppressive measures against labour.
“Efforts are being made to amalgamate labour and banking courts within the SHC, and such issues would be resolved soon,” he assured.
“Courts are meant for dispensation of justice. I am proud of having the honour of being the nephew of (late) Manzar Alam who contested the case for (late) Maulvi Tameezuddin”.
Addressing the event, Justice(R) Shahid Anwar paid glowing tributes to services rendered by (late) Justice Mamoon Qazi, while reminding that many renowned judges were indebted to labour courts for their careers.
In his concluding address, IRAA general secretary Malik Rafiq said that Justice Mushir Alam, in the capacity of SHC CJ had appointed justice (r) Shahid Anwar Bajwa as caretaker of the labour court when the labour court started receiving funds for its effective functioning.
