Mamnoon for laws of monetary attraction

President Mamnoon Hussain Thursday said liberal, investment-friendly policies and economic reforms introduced by the present government had made Pakistan a lucrative destination for foreign and domestic investors.

Talking to a delegation of Vimpelcom Limited, a global provider of telecommunication services, the president said the policies of the present government have placed the country on the path of economic progress and development.

The president said Pakistan offers ample opportunities for investment in the telecom sector and said the government accords priority to the development of IT and telecom sector. He said the telecommunication sector has attracted substantial amount of Foreign Direct Investment in the country. He expressed hope that the ongoing process of telecom spectrum auction would help generate employment opportunities, promote trade and economic activities and bring in more Foreign Direct Investment in the country. He said it would also help the telecom companies provide best cellular services to the customers.

The president said Pakistan greatly valued Mobilink’s contribution to Pakistan’s economic progress and development of Telecom sector in the country. He assured that all possible measures would be taken to provide maximum security and protection to the foreign investors.

CEO Vimpelcom Jo Lunder appreciated the telecom policy of the government which has spurred healthy competition among the leading cellular companies and said Pakistan telecom sector has great potential and Mobilink intended to expand its network and operations in Pakistan. He reiterated his company’s commitment towards providing the people of Pakistan with modern telecom solutions.

The chief executive officer said that VimpelCom Ltd was global provider of telecommunication services and the biggest cellular operator in Russia. He said VimpelCom became the first Russian company since 1903 to list shares on the New York Stock Exchange and was known in Pakistan by its brand name of Mobilink.

Emeritues Chairman Augie K Fabela II also briefed about their operation, activities and investment of Mobilink in Pakistan.
