Former political allies turned foes, the Pakistan People’s Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Friday decided to bridge their differences after the PPP agreed to give MQM five ministries and two advisory positions in its Sindh provincial government. A formal announcement to this effect is likely to be made in four days time.
Earlier talking to reporters at Karachi airport, PPP leader Rehman Malik had said that talks with leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had been held in a pleasant and agreeable atmosphere and the nation would receive good news on this end very soon.
MQM chief Altaf hussain later in the evening directed his party leaders not to make any anti-PPP statement, confirming reports that the two parties had reached an understanding on the alliance.
Last week, a high-level delegation of theMQM comprising London’s Rabita Committee deputy convener Nadeem Nusrat along with Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad met PPP leader and former president Asif Ali Zardari along with Senator Rehman Malik.
In the meeting Zardari had said that for the sake of prosperity and development, the reconciliation process should carry on, and the political relationship between the two parties should be strengthened.
