SC constitutes body to probe karokari case

The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday constituted a committee under the supervision of DSP Abdul Qudoos Kulhar for arresting members of the jirga and investigating the matter of killings of girls declared as kari by a jirga in Larkana.

The SC bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani took up suo motu case on Shikarpur karo kari for hearing on Friday. The court ordered that the case be investigated within a week and report on arrest of nominated accused be presented before it.

DIG Larkana Khadim Hussain Rind said raids were being conducted for the arrest of accused in both the cases of murder and jirga, however, the court expressed displeasure over non-arrest of the accused.

Acting IG Iqbal Mehmood told the court earlier that one sub inspector was investigating the case. But a joint team had been constituted for the purpose, he added. A second FIR of the incident has been registered wherein 13 accused including Ghaus Bakhsh Mehr has been nominated. No one among the accused has been arrested so far. The court ordered that investigation be completed within two weeks and challan be presented besides handing over the case file to the new investigation team.
