Iranian and Pakistani officials have underlined the vital importance of increasing road transportation between the two neighbouring states, and voiced their readiness in utilising abundant capacities of this sector as a base for consolidating their ties in other fields.
Director General of the Border Terminals and Transit Office and Iranian Head of the Commission Mohammad Javad Atrchian and Pakistani Joint Secretary for Communications Shabino Sikandar Jalal, in the 8th session of Iran-Pakistan Road Transportation Cooperation Commission in Tehran emphasized role of road transportation in boosting bilateral trade volume. The two sides emphasized the need to raise working hours of the customs staff and increasing the number of staff in border terminals in order to upgrade trade.
Atrchian said the Iranian party wanted guaranteeing complete security of Iranian vehicles in transit on Pakistani soil and said based on the decisions of the 17th Joint Border Commission in February last year, the issue will be raised in the subcommittee in Mirjaveh in May to make necessary decisions.
The Iranian official referred to setting up of Taftan border terminal and two service facilities as well as facilitating customs formalities, less control and extra checking and facilitating road transportation as provisions of the mutual agreement.
