Afghan instability affects Pakistan: Sartaj

Advisor to Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Thursday said that a stable Afghanistan was pre-requisite for peace in the region.

According to reports from the United Kingdom, Sartaj Aziz while addressing a function at International Institute of Strategic Studies in London said that Pakistan desires peace and prosperity in Afghanistan as instability in that country has affected Pakistan’s internal situation.

He said that Islamabad fully supports peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan for its economic development.

The advisor is in London to participate in the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group meeting tomorrow (Friday).

Talking to media, Aziz said that the government was making all efforts to resolve matters through dialogue, adding that no time-frame could be given for peace talks with the Taliban.

He said that the terrorist outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was challenging the writ. He said the government would establish its writ at all costs, adding that action would be taken if needed.

He said the European Union or any other country does not have to impose any condition over the Taliban matter as Pakistan already had a clear policy over security.
