The executive board meeting of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday decided to file a reference against former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) inspector general (IG) Malik Naveed in a weapon purchase scandal.
The meeting was held at NAB Headquarters, under the chairmanship of NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry.
NAB (KP), on receipt of complaints, had authorised an inquiry against police officers and others for alleged embezzlement in procurement of weapons, equipment and vehicles in 2008 and 2009-10 by violating government rules and underlined practices, said a NAB spokesman.
During investigation, it was further established that the accused took huge kickbacks, causing loss of Rs 2031.255 million to the national exchequer, he added.
Recoveries in the case stand at more than Rs 250 million, he maintained.
