Justice Azmat Saeed has said that the possibility of a nexus between insiders of Islamabad district court and terrorists cannot be ruled out.
He said this while a two-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC), presided by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, took up the suo motu case of Islamabad district courts attack case for hearing Monday.
The Islamabad IG, chief commissioner, chief secretaries of all four provinces and district and sessions judge East and West presented their reports during the hearing.
The Islamabad IGP had said in his report that two terrorists attacked Islamabad district courts, while in the chief commissioner’s report, it was said that the attackers were more than two in his view. The Islambad deputy commissioner conducted inquiry into the incident and recorded statements of 154 witnesses, the report had said.
The court expressed dissatisfaction over the reports submitted by the Islamabad IGP and chief commissioner, calling them incomplete, and ordered the interior secretary to conduct independent probe into the incident, excluding the Islamabad police from it.
The court directed all political personalities not to give any statement on the incident as their statements could influence investigations into the case.
The CJP remarked, “It has not been told in the report if there was any security plan with regard to the district court’s security or not. It has also not been told if the attackers were chased or not. Also, it is not said if any step was taken to intercept the attackers or not”.
While ordering the Islamabad IGP to submit an additional report within two days, the court ordered that an inquiry committee be constituted under Justice Shaukat Aziz of Islamabad High Court, which should continue its work and present its report before the SC.
The hearing of the case was adjourned till March 17.
